Summary:
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), under the direction of the Registered Nurse, is responsible for the delivery of direct and indirect nursing care for a patient or an assigned group of patients within a patient care unit. Is expected to meet patient care needs through the use of the nursing process. May be responsible for data collection and the assigned care of patients of different age groups and using age related interventions. Must be competent in the interpretation of a patient's behavior or physical symptoms so that abnormals are recognized and reported to the RN so that interventions may be implemented in a timely manner.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Under supervision of RN, assumes responsibility for assigned patients or Meal Break Nurse role.
Under the supervision of the RN, the LVN will perform data collection and physical examinations for his/her patients and participate with the RN in planning of care and implementation of interventions.
Education and
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited school of LPT training.
Must have ability to speak, read, write, perform simple arithmetic calculations and follow oral or written instructions in English.
Basic computer skills required. Current California LPT license in good standing with the licensing board, and current CPR (BLS-C) certification.
New graduate or re-entry nurses do not require experience.
1-year recent experience in an acute or long-term mental health care hospital is preferred.
