Job Summary
Codes diagnoses and operative procedures using: ICD-9-CM, CPT, APC, HCPCS, 3M Encoder along with other available reference materials. Participates in all aspects of the CDI program. Abstracts patient information that generates a clinical patient care database.
Duties and Responsibilities
Accurately codes patient records utilizing appropriate reference materials.
Complies with AH Compliance Plan, AHIMA Code of Ethics and Standards of Ethical Coding., Coding Clinic Guidelines, Coding Coordinator for documentation and DRG issues
Consults with physicians for clarification of clinical data when encountering conflicting or ambiguous information.
Keeps abreast of regulatory changes affecting coded information required by CMS, OSHPD and others, as appropriate, and applies current UHDDS definitions for coding and abstracting.
Maintains knowledge of current information related to third party reimbursement regulations.
Maintains productivity levels per GAMC guidelines.
Performs audits on peers at least once annually.
Education and Qualifications
Attends continuing education classes to maintain RHIA, RHIT and/or CCS credential.
Basic knowledge of computer applications for the HIM Department CCS certification
Detailed knowledge and understanding the ICD-9-CM and CPT coding classification systems.
Detailed knowledge of DRG's and how they relate to the coding function.
Detailed understanding of the relationship between coding and billing/reimbursement.
Follows American Health Information Management Association's Code of Ethics and Standards of Ethical Coding
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Three years previous experience as a hospital inpatient coder.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
