Voluntary Service Specialist

Assists in all aspects of the development, coordination and management of Voluntary Service program. Responsible for interviewing, scheduling, placement and evaluation of new volunteers. This includes consulting with clinical and administrative staff to develop appropriate volunteer assignments, determining schedules, and conducting general orientation programs for new volunteers. Provides daily supervision of volunteers and assures adequate numbers of volunteers and proper training is provided. Assures that favorable interpersonal relations with management, volunteers, community service organizations, staff and all customers are maintained. Works in conjunction with the Voluntary Service Program Manager and/or staff in the planning and execution of a variety of complex internal and external special events such as Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, National Salute to Veteran Patients, Volunteer Week, etc. Oversees the data entry of master records, posting of volunteer hours, information changes, and monthly transmission of hours. Compiles information for the preparation of statistical and narrative reports. Assists with the planning and participates in quarterly committee meetings. Assists in administering the Gifts and Donation Program. Accepts and records donations to the medical facility. Maintains General Post Account and reconciles with Fiscal Service. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements for promotion/advancement within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. For this GS-7 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5 level or higher. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5). Specialized experience is experience performing administrative support work. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 1 full year of graduate level education. OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate education to meet the total qualification requirements. OR, Superior Academic Achievement which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. Class standing - You must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. Grade-point average - You must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (B or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (B+ or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements:
The work is partly sedentary. However, it requires considerable walking throughout the facility and may involve travel by a vehicle outside the medical facility. The work involves writing at a desk, sitting in conferences and meetings, standing, walking, bending, pushing a small cart, carrying light items, and lifting moderately weighty items. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
