Nurse Practitioner
The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System is seeking a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner which includes Women's Health to be a member of the Primary Care team. The Primary Care Nurse Practitioner is responsible for both independent and supervised assessment and medical management of patients in the primary care clinic. The Nurse Practitioner assesses, plans, implements, collaborates and evaluates the needs and care of patients with acute and chronic diseases. Your duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Promotes self-care and collaborates with patients to establish realistic health goals; Providing direct patient care and providing the patient and family teaching, staff education, and consulting and collaborating with other health care providers; Participating in nursing and medical research; Prescribing medications and adjunctive modalities; and refers patients; Serving as an expert practitioner, executing position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care; Demonstrating leadership in delivering holistic care through collaborative strategies; Manifesting a high level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of the complex responses of individuals, families, or communities to actual or potential health problems related to their life limiting disease conditions; Exhibiting an expert level of practice and breadth of knowledge, synthesis of data and complexity of skills and interventions related to the life limiting disease/palliative specialties; Providing patient care in accordance with professional standards, core values and commitment to excellent service; Managing of Veterans with Primary Care needs, including Women's Health needs regarding primary and preventative care within this population in collaboration with a designated Women's Health physician. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. The population of male and female veterans served ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. VAGLAHS is a major interdisciplinary teaching facility, serving medical, surgical, and neurological inpatients and outpatients. There is a large outpatient psychiatric population, with visits to the Emergency Department and admissions for medical co-morbidities. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
